Build steps

  1. Level a strip 12 ft wide plus 2 ft and check it drains. Lay out the footprint with string and check both diagonals for square.
  2. Build the base from ground-contact 2x6s on edge: two 142 in rails and the front, back and middle cross pieces between them. Level it and drive a T-post at each corner against the outside.
  3. Build and stand the two 24 in knee walls on the base rails: a pressure-treated bottom plate, 2x4 studs every 24 in and a top plate. Screw the 1/2 in plywood siding on the outside.
  4. Bend each of the 3 cattle panels into a hoop 10 ft across and 62 in tall at the crown. Stand the feet on the top plates and screw them down with fender washers. Space them so they overlap and wire them together.
  5. Cut the end walls from the sheet layouts, with the outline cut to the knee wall and the arch. Screw each to the end hoop and the base. Keep the door cutout in the front and re-hang it.
  6. Frame the door opening with a stud each side and a header laid flat. Brace the door cutout with two battens and hang it on strap hinges with a hasp.
  7. Staple hardware cloth over the vent in the back from the inside and hang the cutout as a flap.
  8. Pull the 20 ft wide film over the arch, centered, and fasten it down each side to the top plate with a wiggle-wire channel or a 1x2 batten.
