Build steps
Build the base from pressure-treated 2x4s on edge and screw the 3/4 in floor on top.
Bolt the fixed 4x4 post through the base, with a lag bolt at the bottom of the swing post as a pivot.
Screw the top bar to the fixed post. A 1/2 in pin through the bar and the swing post locks the gap at 6 in.
Screw the pin board across the front of both posts at the neck height. Drill 1/2 in holes every 2 in for the pin.
Bolt the stand to a platform or screw it to the ground so it does not move.
Before you start
A headgate holds the animal still for hoof trimming, shots or dosing. A gap of 6 in suits a goat; widen it for sheep.
Lock the pin before you walk away, and never leave an animal in it alone. A panicking goat can hurt its neck.
Grain in a feed pan keeps the animal busy and quiet.
