Build steps
Cut the four legs from one 4x4 and the rails and slats from the 2x4s.
Screw the rails around the tops of the legs, flush with the outside faces, with two 3 in screws each.
Screw the middle rail between the front and back rails and the six top slats across them, laid flat, 4 in apart.
Set the stand on four pavers or a gravel pad, level in both directions, with the front edge tilted 1/2 in down to shed rain.
Place the hives on the stand with their entrances facing south or southeast.
Before you start
16 in keeps the hives off the wet ground, away from skunks, and at a good height to lift supers. Raise it 8 in for a bad back.
A full 10-frame hive weighs up to 100 lb with honey. This stand carries two with room to spare.
Keep the grass under it cut or covered with gravel so the bees are not blocked by weeds.
