Build steps

  1. Level a strip 7 ft wide plus 4 ft and check square. Lay the 2x6 ground-contact base rails on edge, in joined lengths for the longer runs, and screw the cross pieces between them.
  2. Bend each of the 2 cattle panels into a hoop 7 ft across and 78 in tall, and screw its feet to the outside of the rails with fender washers. Set them side by side and wire them together every 12 in.
  3. Cut the end walls from the sheet layouts, screw them to the end hoops and the base, and frame the door opening with two studs and a header laid flat.
  4. Brace the door cutout with two battens and hang it on strap hinges with a hasp. Staple cloth over the high vent in the back end.
  5. Wrap 3 strips of 3 ft hardware cloth over the hoops from one rail to the other, overlapping each by 2 in, and tie them down to the panels every 6 in with wire.
  6. Lay the 2 ft cloth apron flat around the outside, stapled to the rails, and bury its edge or cover it with soil.
  7. Pull the tarp over the back half of the hoops for shade and rain, held with wire ties and rope.
