Build steps
Cut a 16 ft hog panel to 188 in, through the middle of the squares, and roll it into a ring about 60 in across with the ends overlapping 2 in.
Wire the seam shut in four places with tie wire.
Set the ring on bare ground and drive three T-posts around it, 12 in into the ground, and wire the ring to them.
Fill it with whole or shredded leaves, and wet each 6 in layer. Fill to the top; it will sink by half.
In a year or two the pile turns to dark, crumbly leaf mold. Lift the ring off, or open the seam, to take the finished mold out.
Before you start
Leaf mold is a slow, cold compost: just leaves, water and time. Add it to beds as a soil conditioner, not as fertilizer.
The ring holds about 56 cu ft: the leaves of three or four large trees.
Shredded leaves break down in a year, whole leaves in two. Run the mower over them first.
