Build steps
Cut two 2x2 stringers to 52 in with the ends cut at 27° and six 2x2 rungs to 9 in.
Screw the rungs between the stringers, 8 in apart along the slope, each with two 2.5 in screws at each end.
Rest the top on the coop's pop door sill and stake the foot, or hook it on with two screws.
Before you start
A ladder is easier for hens than a drop. A 25° slope with rungs 8 in apart suits a standard hen. For bantams, use rungs 6 in apart.
Hens roost on the rungs at night, so wipe them often. Use a 2x4 for a stronger ladder.
The ladder shown is 52 in long and 24 in high; shorten it for a lower door.
