Build steps

  1. Level a pad 12 in wider than the shed all round and spread 4 in of compacted gravel on it. Set the four 4x4 skids on it and check they are level and square with each other by measuring both diagonals.
  2. Build the floor frame on the skids: rims front and back, 7 joists at 16 in on center with blocking at the second plywood joint. Check square by measuring both diagonals.
  3. Screw the 3/4 in plywood floor to the frame every 8 in. Every joint lands on a joist or on blocking.
  4. Frame the end walls flat on the floor: plates, studs, the header laid flat over the door and the gable studs cut to the roof slope.
  5. Frame the side walls flat the same way, studs at 24 in on center with one at every plywood joint.
  6. Stand the walls, plumb them, screw the corners together and screw the bottom plates down into the floor frame.
  7. Cut the 12 rafters with plumb cuts at 14.0° on both ends, set them in pairs against the ridge board and toe-screw them to the top plates.
  8. Cut the siding from the sheet layouts. Keep the door cutouts. Screw it on every 6 in; every joint lands on a stud.
  9. Screw the 1/2 in plywood roof deck to the rafters with H-clips at the row joints, then the 10 metal panels, lapping one rib.
  10. Brace each door cutout with three battens and hang it on strap hinges with a hasp.
